T he Grade 9s attend camps throughout the year in preparation for the end-of-year programme. They work on research and design, plan and collect resources, and ultimately assemble a given project for Table Farm. This tests their ability to think on their feet, to delegate, to work together, harnessing each individual’s talents and abilities for the betterment of the group as a whole. They learn to make decisions under physical duress, learn problem-solving, and bushcraft techniques, and do some menial tasks to test their patience. All the while they are assessed by staff, individually and as a group, to determine their strongest character traits, their style of leadership, and their tolerance of others while being out of their comfort zone. The Grade 9s explore trails, learn about navigation, and perfect their culinary skills with nothing more than a rocket stove and a few choice cans of food.
