T he Grade 11 ‘Long Walk‘ has changed since most pupils find it difficult for this outdoor experience to live up to the expectations of the Journey. The Grade 11 experience comprises two elements. They spend time during the year at Table Farm, exploring various forms of leadership styles under stressful conditions. In physical and mental challenges, the groups are monitored carefully in their performances in activities that will reflect their ability to handle certain situations. They are required to learn delegation, respect for their fellow learners, harnessing initiative, executing a plan, and so forth. All of this is done outdoors. The second component of the 6-day programme is in and around Grahamstown where they will be able to put some of the knowledge gained into practice. The Grade 11s attend lectures on ethics and moral values as well as participate in a two-day hike.
