Harley Searle - Housemaster - St Andrew's College

Harley Searle – Housemaster

I  was schooled at Huguenot High School in Wellington and attained my B.Sc. (Zoology, Botany and Environmental and Geographical Sciences) degree at UCT and my Higher Diploma in Education through UNISA.

In 2001 I was appointed as a full time Natural Science and Life Sciences teacher at St. Andrew’s College. In my time at College I have been a deputy housemaster in Armstrong House as well as the HOD for Life Sciences and the Master in Charge of Rugby. I share my passion for sport with the boys at College and really enjoy my afternoons’ coaching water polo in the summer and rugby in the winter.

My wife, Niki, is the Faculty Officer for the Dean of Commerce at Rhodes University. We have two children, Megan and Elizabeth, who are both very happy at DSG and St Andrew’s Prep respectively.

My role in the house is to create an environment that will nurture and drive each boy’s development in all aspects of his College Life. This is achieved by a team effort which includes the staff and the leadership group of the House. In our interactions with the boys we always try to provide an ear for them to talk to, develop a relationship with them outside of the classroom, engage meaningfully with them and most importantly lead by example.
