Interact Club:

T he Interact Club is an international organisation created to enable learners from different schools to help their community. Here in Makhanda (Grahamstown), we partnered with the ICoG (Interact Clubs of Grahamstown). The Interact Club is in partnership with seven other schools in Makhanda to work together and engage with helping our community.

The club members are dedicated to finding ways of helping the needy, reducing hunger, and promoting health care, in addition to preserving the diversity of life on Earth and preventing environmental degradation. To achieve these aims, we work in tandem with the community to provide environmental information, attract the public’s attention, and raise funds through service projects and activities with other schools which will help benefit our community.

It’s not all work though; we also have fun! Meetings are informal and we have monthly socials where members get together.

Environmental and Sustainability:

This committee works with the Community Engagement office to implement service-based projects such as vegetable gardens, Hippo-roller water projects, and environmental projects. Research is done, and we are always working on the sustainability of the projects and how to maintain our Eco-school status.

Monday Clubs and Academic Extension:

We have partnered with three local schools (Good Shepherd, Ntaba Maria and St Mary’s). Academic Extensions takes place on Fridays from 15h00 to 17h00, where St Andrew’s College boys get an opportunity to assist learners from the above-mentioned schools with Maths and English.

Clubs are also offered to pupils from these schools, such as art, reading, basketball, computer lessons, board games, football, tennis and swimming. These take place on Monday from 15h00- 16h00 and are compulsory for all St Andrew’s College Grade 10 pupils.
