Director of Water Polo flying the St Andrew’s College flag in Turkey

Our Director of Water Polo, Mr Grant Mackenzie, is flying the St Andrew’s College flag in Manisa, Turkey while coaching the SA U16 Girls’ team at the World Championships.
Mr Mackenzie, who has been involved with St Andrew’s College sports for the past five years, has coached and led various water polo teams and programs over the past decade, achieving numerous successes. Highlights include coaching at St Andrew’s College and Reddam House, where his teams have consistently won medals at prestigious tournaments. He has also coached numerous provincial teams that have medalled at the annual Currie Cup, including a bronze medal with the Girls’ U19 team earlier this year, and at SA Schools water polo tournaments. In 2020 Grant coached the SA U15 Boys team at the CANA Zone IV Water Polo Championships, where his team won gold, and in 2022 the SA U16 Boys team at the World Championships in Volos, Greece.
Grant has also been deeply involved in grassroots development, founding Silvertree Aquatics Club, and promoting the sport of water polo across communities in Cape Town and Zimbabwe. His dedication to water polo extends beyond coaching to organizing leagues and tournaments, fostering a love for the sport at all levels.
Grant’s team’s opening game of the World Championships was against Kazakhstan. The game was a tight affair and the SA team managed to make a comeback from 5-2 down, to win 8-7. The team will play Thailand today for positions 13-16.
We wish Grant and his team well. We are proud of you, Grant!
