Rugby vs Queen’s College

St Andrew’s College travelled to Komani this past weekend to take on Queen’s College. The derby day was filled with close games and some wonderful rugby on display. The highlights of the day included the U14A’s 19-all draw, and the 2nds and 3rds earning well-deserved wins on the Rec.

In the first team encounter, Queen’s dominated the opening half with the College team looking very flat in the first 25 minutes. Queen’s College applied pressure and scored an intercept try, an opportunistic chip and gather try and a penalty in the first half, they were unlucky not to have added more to the scoreboard due to the number of penalties conceded by the St Andrew’s College team. College fought back through a penalty from Ali de Kock and a try from scrumhalf Will Stern, the half ended 15-10 to Queen’s.

St Andrew’s College performed better in the 2nd half, they were beginning to apply some more pressure and Julian Mapoore scored a try from a well-worked set piece move. Unfortunately for the College boys, they couldn’t capitalize on lineouts deep in the Queen’s half. Queen’s scored a try to go ahead 20-17 and it was a very tight last 10 mins, Queen’s held out and won the game 20-17.

We look forward to a home derby against Kingswood College at home this weekend. Thank you to all the boys and staff who traveled to Komani and to those who made the trip possible.
