Westville Boys’ High School Golf Festival

Two golf teams from St Andrew’s College recently participated in the annual Westville Boys’ High School Golf Festival held at Sun City. There were three matches played over the week in a whirlwind of swings and putts for a Trophy challenge at the Gary Player Country Club and the Lost City Golf Club.

Navigating through the challenging terrain of these magnificent golf courses, this tournament was a test of skill and resilience for our players, both in the A and B division. However, they were able to hold their heads up high, and despite facing strong opponents and enduring the pressure of intense competition from some of the top golf schools in the country.

The players in the A-division consisted of Ethan Bradfield, Sebastian Steffny, James Ponting, Ethan Malan, and Daniel Patton. All had a unique stellar performance one way or another and played consistently, thus St Andrew’s College secured a commendable 5th place out of 14 competing schools in a Plate challenge. Though the ultimate trophy remained elusive, our A-division players showed grit and determination throughout the tournament.

The greens at both courses had some bunkers surrounding them which made it difficult for some of our B-division players to navigate around and test their precision and strategy. Despite this, our players remained undeterred, and thus they emerged with solid and pleasing performances, some marked by impressive eagle shots from Thomas Lake, and Oarabile Mzimela. Other B-division players included Tyghe Muller, Chris Johnson, Caleb Emslie and Callum McMurray, all whom had quite an excellent spread of par shots and birdies throughout the tournament.

Overall, both teams can be pleased with their stellar performances, and I challenge them to use all the experiences they gained to their advantage. The boys must be commended on their conduct on and off the courses and around the Sun City complex as they represented the school superbly. This experience bodes well for the future, and we look forward to making a strong challenge next year.
