SAFA/CAF D Coaching Diploma inspired by St Andrew’s College

The SAFA/CAF D Football Diploma made possible by St Andrew’s College through the St Andrew’s College Rugby Tour Legacy Fund proved to be an outstanding success, serving as a significant milestone in the development of football within the local community. The course, designed as a community-based project, aimed to enhance the coaching skills of 30 local coaches, ultimately contributing to the overall growth and improvement of football in the Makhanda.

The success of the course can be attributed in large part to the expertise and experience of the facilitators, Mr. Desmond Lewis and Mr. Gregory Hughes. Both coaches are nationally recognised for their contributions towards football coaching, and their presence added immense value to the course.

The curriculum of the SAFA/CAF D Football Diploma course was meticulously crafted to cover all aspects of football coaching during an intense eight days. The course included in-depth discussions and practical sessions on the principles of play, coaching methodologies, and the three main phases of the game. Emphasis was placed on the distinction between techniques and tactics, allowing coaches to develop a nuanced understanding of both aspects and their applications on the field.

What set this course apart was its strong community focus. By engaging with local coaches, St Andrew’s College fostered a sense of unity and collaboration among participants. This not only facilitated the exchange of ideas and experiences but also laid the foundation for a sustainable football community in Makhanda. The coaches, drawn from diverse backgrounds, were able to build a network that will continue to support the growth of football in the region.

In conclusion, the SAFA/CAF D Football Diploma course in Makhanda stands out as a remarkable success. The impact of this community-based project is expected to resonate for years to come, as the local coaches apply their newfound knowledge and skills to elevate the standard of football in Makhanda. The success of this program serves as a testament to the positive outcomes that can be achieved through collaborative efforts in football development. All the participants and both facilitators expressed their deepest gratitude to the St Andrew’s College Rugby Tour Legacy Fund for making such a life-changing event possible.
