The naming of rowing boats is a cherished tradition in the sport, often involving creative and meaningful choices that reflect the spirit and identity of the team or the individuals who will navigate the waters.
The St Andrew’s College Rowing Club held a special ceremony on Saturday 30 September to celebrate the naming of their new boats:
‘Jake Green’ Coxed Four & Quad
‘Ingwe’ training scull
‘Mpumza’ training scull
We were delighted to have Old Andrean and a two-time Olympic Rower for South Africa, Jake Green (Merriman 2012), as our guest of honour. Also, in attendance was Jacko Maree, Chairman of Council, Headmaster, Mr Tom Hamilton, Mark Cotton, DSG Chairman of Council, Ed Goodier, Director of Rowing, Steve Moorcroft and members of the Rowing PSG who have contributed to the fundraising for this equipment over the last few years.
