The Makana Schools League hosted by St Andrew’s College kicked-off on Saturday. St Andrew’s College hosted Nombulelo High School and Khutliso High School in the first round of fixtures.
The U14 matches were highly entertaining. The U14B team showed great resilience versus a strong Nombulelo U14A team while the U14A showed flair, accuracy in passing and some spectacular finishes in a brilliant performance 5-2 win over Khutliso U14A. It was a special day for the Kayula brothers both as player and manager.
The U16A team played with passion and commitment. The team launched a strong comeback versus a skillful Nombulelo U16A team. After scoring two goals in quick succession to tie the score at 4-all, the team conceded a soft goal in the last minute to lose 4-5.
The College 2nd Team produced a remarkable performance to beat Khutliso’s 1st Team 2-0. This was the first recorded victory for the 2nds as they look forward to building momentum in the league.
The 1st Team game was a tight, but entertaining match. The College team played some brilliant attacking football and stayed composed on defence. The team dominated the match and led 2-1 with 5 minutes to play. Nombulelo kept persisting and won themselves a free kick outside the College box. An unfortunate deflection spiraled the ball to the back of the net and the match ended 2-2. Great performances don’t always lead to victories, that’s just football.
It was a great weekend for the Football Club. We look forward to some more MSL action this week on Wednesday and Friday. All matches are posted on the notice board and on the SOCS website.
