The Grade 12 Geography classes had the opportunity to visit a local agro processing factory here in Makhanda. They were shown around the factory and observed how the labour intensive process works and how they have to ensure that the quality and final product canned or bottled is of high international standards.
Selected and harvested from the fields of Southern Africa, the colourful, vibrant red and yellow cherry pepper is processed and packed in bulk packaging options in their factories, and this beautiful fruit is purchased by global customers. Their pickled selection now also includes radiant orange sweetheart peppers. The Carara factory exports on a global market and employs on average 1500 staff members during their processing seasons. The pupils were given a jar of sweetheart peppers to take home and sample.
