The St Andrew’s College and DSG String Orchestra was invited to participate in the first ever South African National Strings Convention in Gqeberha, hosted at Nelson Mandela University on 17 March. Numerous school ensembles participated in activities such as masterclasses in groups, individual technique classes, musical games and great opportunities to interact with musicians who are professional in their own right.
Each ensemble was appointed a lecturer who gave orchestral advice on a piece that they performed, paying attention to interpretation and technical aspects.
The St Andrew’s College and DSG orchestra were allocated Mrs Jeanne-Louise Moolman - the viola lecturer at the University of the Free State and principal violist of the Free State Symphony Orchestra. The members of the orchestra certainly gained exciting new information that will enhance their Musical learning journey in the future.
