The St Andrew’s College 1st XV Rugby side played in two games at the Saints Sports Festival from Thursday 6 April to Saturday 8 April. The first, against Michaelhouse ended up with a 29-22 defeat but the team bounced back with a 43-21 victory against St John’s Harare on Saturday. The Michaelhouse game was always going to be a tight game. Despite having a lot of good field position and possession, this did not translate into points for the College team, and they only led 8-7 at the break. Basic errors proved costly, and Michaelhouse capitalized with two breakaway tries and a penalty try to put them well clear of College at 29-15 with eight minutes left to play. The College 1st XV managed to score another try off a rolling maul to reduce the deficit but Michaelhouse managed to hold on for the win. Against St John’s Harare, College started strongly and built up a commanding and dominant lead. However, a poor fifteen minutes at the start of the second half allowed St John’s to score two well worked tries. College bounced back again, finishing off some good passages of play to secure a comfortable victory.
