Christopher Pretorius travelled to Johannesburg on Friday to compete in the South African Junior Piping Championships, known as the Junior 100 Guineas Solo Competition.
The contest consisted of 3 sections: Piobaireachd, a March and a Strathspey reel, where competitors accumulate points across the three sections.
Each competitor is expected to submit 2 March sets, 2 Strathspey Reel sets and 1 Piobaireachd. Competitors are then informed 10 minutes before they are due to compete, which sets they will be playing for each section.
Unfortunately, Christopher wavered in both Marches and Strathspey-Reel sections and was outperformed by his fellow competitors.
In the Piobaireachd, however, Christopher produced a solid, well executed solo, placing 2nd behind defending Champion Emily Pence. The points scored in this solid Piobaireachd performance was enough to place Christopher 2nd overall in the Junior Championship.
