Cricket vs Grey

On Saturday versus Grey, the St Andrew’s College 1st XI cricket team played the game with application and grit, and repeatedly fought their way back into the match. Grey High School equally gave their absolute best in the tight tussle on a beautiful day in Gqebhera.
College posted 222 in their first innings, leaving Grey 58 overs for their afternoon run chase. Murray Wilson (45) and Sibusiso Mxube (38) top scored for College, and earlier, up front, Mitchell Coventry played well for his 33 off 63 balls.
College found two early wickets, but then Grey’s powerful number three, Jordon Strydom showed his class with a fluent 44, before he had the misfortune of being run out at the bowler’s end. This gave College an opportunity to have a crack at Grey’s middle order. Matthew Beamish’s determined spell of 3/67 in 17 overs gave College much hope, however Grey steadily chipped away at College’s total, Grey winning by 2 wickets with just two balls to spare.
The day was filled with superb cricket and reaffirmed the immense value of the Grey fixture.
