Shaw Brown T20 Cricket

St Andrew’s College 1st XI cricket side took part in the annual Shaw Brown T20 Tournament, hosted by Kingswood College, at City Lords. Teams talking part are St Andrew’s, Kingswood and Graeme College.

St Andrew’s lost the toss on Friday afternoon and were asked to bat first by Graeme College. St Andrew’s gained early run rate momentum in their innings but kept giving away their ascendency.

Zach Micklewright’s 38 (off 22 balls) and Jake Coventry’s mature match winning 42 in the middle overs gave St Andrew’s a competitive 152/9 in their 20 overs. Marcus Williams, Aphiwe Mnyanda and Kevin Geldenhuys each picked up 2 useful wickets for Graeme who would have been feeling confident going into the innings interval.

Mathew Beamish (3/20) and Mark Ter Morshuizen (3/26) were superb for St Andrew’s bowling Graeme out for 138 and setting up a tense evening match versus Kingswood College.

St Andrew’s posted 163/6 in their 20 overs versus Kingswood. Zach Micklewright continued his rich form with a sparkling 61 off just 37 balls. Sean Conroy 34 not out (29 balls) and Nicholas Lane 34 not out (19 balls) were superb, treasuring their last moments for St Andrew’s. Bukho Nkwinti picked up 2 big wickets for Kingswood.

Kingswood’s Angus Johns (49 runs) and Michael Van Staden, 33 off just 14 balls brought Kingswood close, but in the end, St Andrew’s secured victory and winners of the Shaw Brown T20 Trophy. Hlonela Ntshingwa 2/21 and Mathew Beamish 2/24 led the St Andrew’s attack who proved to be well prepared in the field, defending totals on the boundary hitting City Lords.

Thanks to Kingswood and Graeme on another wonderful Shaw Brown T20 tournament, a highlight for the boys at the end of their cricketing year.
