And the Journey continues …

Day 6 of the John Jones Fish River Journey and the first section of hikes has been completed, the first leg of cycling ends on Sunday and so does the final group’s canoeing. Well done to all pupils and leaders for completing the Nardousberg Hike (Angel) which is the toughest climb on Journey.
“Life is an adventure that is best lived boldly.” – Bear Grylls
It is during these sorts of hikes and activities that the group bonds and starts to build its own identity. Already there is such a strong bond among them that comes out in so many different forms, some groups sing at night, some sit around the fire together, others have meals together and reflect on the day.
While the hiking was happening, there was also canoeing going on at Karoo River Rafters. All groups cover the same section of water which has several small rapids along the way, which makes for a lot of fun for the pupils. The day on the water is a welcomed relief from those spent climbing mountains. It is also something a lot of the pupils haven’t done before and therefore a great experience.
The next section of the John Jones Fish River Journey sees the groups move down the river to the area in and around Cradock. During this part, the groups will be doing community engagement, cycling, and hiking in and out of Solo.
