St Andrew’s Academy end of year function

The pupils of the St Andrew’s Academy were treated to a very special and inspirational address by Mr Mzwandile Kleyi, current principal of Nathaniel Nyaluza Secondary School. He was a former pupil of the Academy, and he has fond memories of catching the College school bus and attending the Academy on a Saturday morning and devouring delicious pies and cool drinks which were a luxury for him at the time.

He went on to study for a BSc. at Rhodes University and then decided to take up teaching after gaining his PGCE. It was here that he met up with Aidan Smith who was his science method lecturer. Mr Kleyi then came to St Andrew’s College to complete the practical component of the course.

He encouraged the pupils to study hard and not be distracted from their goal of improving their lot in life. He stressed that education is the key to a better future and that he was sure that there were future leaders sitting amongst them, as South Africa needs inspirational leaders from the Youth of today.

The guests and pupils were then treated to a musical interlude performed by Jonathan Pretorius on cello, Tristan Ssekimpi on Clarinet and Kumkani Kabane on the Euphonium.

Then everyone tucked into a scrumptious spread prepared by the school caterers.

A fitting end to another successful year of the St Andrew’s Academy.
