Cricket at College

St Andrew’s College played various cricket fixtures in various matches over the weekend.
The St Andrew’s College 1st XI narrowly lost Friday night’s T20 match in the last over against Kingswood College. Kingswood batted superbly in their run chase under the Knowling lights. Matthew Collett’s match-winning 85 came off just 55 balls, securing his team’s victory.
On Saturday, the St Andrew’s 1st XI bounced back and pulled off an exceptional run chase on Lower field against Selborne College. Selborne’s Ben van der Merwe continued with his batting form with his superb 108 coming off just 107 balls and was filled with an array of strokes. This left St Andrew’s a daunting task of chasing 257 for victory.
Sibusiso Mxube and Murray Wilson then pulled off one of the greatest run chases on Lower field. Incredibly, in the 44th over St Andrew’s won by 6 wickets. Sibusiso Mxube finished on a clinical 99 not out and was very well supported by Murray Wilson who batted maturely for his 57 not out. Their 156-run 5th wicket partnership has raised the bar for the 1st XI squad. The partnership reflects hard work and consistency. Well done to all the cricketers and coaches, it was an entertaining day for Cricket on Saturday against Selborne. The contests were tight, good cricket was played, and, on the day, St Andrew’s managed to win the big moments.
