The St Andrew’s College Rowing Club hosted an action-packed day of rowing on the Kowie River in Port Alfred over the past weekend. Crews from Selborne College, Grey High School and Port Alfred locals, Nemato took part in the racing.
In the day’s first event, a four kilometer time trial, the St Andrew’s 1st Eight were the fastest crew overall, finishing 18 seconds ahead of the Selborne College 1st crew.
The rest of the day’s racing comprised of one-on-one knockout format sprint racing over 500 meters. This, as always resulted in closely fought, exciting racing. Despite a number of good performances from the St Andrew’s crews, Selborne in particular proved to be strong opposition across the board, especially in the junior age groups, taking the most wins over the day and accordingly, the overall points trophy. There were wins in the U15B Quads event for St Andrew’s, with the crew comprising of Marcel Llewellyn, James Jarvis, Christopher Jarvis and Matthew Wade as well as in the Open age group events where St Andrew’s were victorious in the Rhino Shield event for Fours and Kudu Shield event for Eights.
Well done to all the boys who took part as well as the coaching staff who doubled as officials for the day, ensuring the event ran smoothly, as well as our parent supporters for their assistance in making it an enjoyable and welcoming occasion for our visiting teams.
