Knysna Regatta

The rowing club travelled to the Knysna Regatta over the last weekend to compete against schools from both the Eastern Cape and Western Cape schools and clubs.

Saturday’s sprint racing was unfortunately hampered by wind and rain with racing postponed and ultimately cancelled due to the conditions. Some racing was successfully run with some promising results for the College crews.

The Open Coxless 4 of Joe Kroon, Connor Moorcroft, Max Estcourt and Aiden Wood were neck and neck with SACS down the course with SACS just ahead at the finish line and St Andrews in second .

The U15 age group showed its strength and depth with a 1-2 finish in the Quads event, the crew of Michael Fowlds, William Farquharson, Marcel Llewellyn, James Jarvis and Callum McMurray came across the line with a commanding lead to take victory.

Saturday’s final race was the 1st 8s event, the College crew found themselves on the back foot after a clash with SACS at the start. However, they managed to recover and surged back into contention, overtaking most of the field to finish a narrow second to Selborne College.

On Sunday the conditions improved significantly, allowing time trial racing to take place. All the College rowers took part over a 4 km course for U15s and a 5km course for the U16s and Opens.  In the absence of full results being available for these races, the highlight was certainly a spirited row from the Open second 8 with many boys experiencing their first major event and putting in a concerted effort to finish the weekend on a postive. Well done to all the boys for their efforts and perseverance.
