The Music Departments of Rhodes University and the Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth (together with other professional players) joined forces to form a symphony orchestra which performed in Makhanda on 25 September and in Port Elizabeth on 2 October. Many hours of rehearsals preceded these performances. Because of the advanced level at which they are playing, both Sauvan Sewsunker (violin) and Cornelia Rocher (viola) were invited to join the orchestra. Ben Terry was one of the soloists performing the first movement of Elgar’s cello concerto, which he did superbly.
We are extremely proud of these three pupils, three out of only four school children in the orchestra who represented SAC and DSG at these prestigious concerts!
