On Saturday 1 October the St Andrew’s College rowers competed in their first fixture of the season on the Zwartkops River outside Gqeberha.
The event, hosted by Grey High School, consisted of time trial racing over 2.5 kilometres against opposition from Grey and Selborne College.
Highlights of the day’s racing came in the form of 1st and 2nd place finishes for the St Andrew’s Open and U15 fours and quads as well as wins for Max Estcourt in the Open scull, Joe Kroon and Connor Moorcroft in the Open Pair and a very tight race for Milo Douglas-Hamilton and Zac Fletcher in the U15 sculls finishing only a couple of seconds behind the top Grey oarsman.
It was also fantastic to see a number of new oarsmen compete in their first event only weeks after trying the sport for the first time. Special mention goes to Brogan Wolff and Joshua Herring, who completed the course in single sculls after only a few rowing sessions.
