College rowers training and competing in GermanySep 29, 2022
The first two weeks of the term produced an exciting and largely successful Cross-Country Season. The season comprised two races held on the commonage around Mountain Drive and tested pupils’ mental and physical endurance.
The competition, looking at the results and the general approach of the boys who took part, was sound and indicative of all that is good about inter-house competition. All the boys who took part are to be congratulated for their efforts in making the whole tone of the event positive and uplifting. While the individual prize for the senior runner was dominated by Dylan Heurlin who ran a credible standards time in the first race, special mention must also be made of the determined performances of Thomas Clucas and Jean de Villiers in both races. Zac Fletcher was the recipient of the individual prize for the best junior runner and his performance in both the junior races of the series bodes well for next year.
Thanks must go to the vast majority of pupils who, week in and week out, came to Cross-Country and performed as best they could. It was particularly encouraging to see the positive attitude of the junior age group athletes and this augurs well for future years. My thanks to all the athletes, marshals, student teachers and teachers who helped, and for all their assistance in making the 2022 season an enjoyable one.
This year saw a very close overall result. Interestingly, the difference between first and second place was miniscule, and this confirms that every boy’s performance and choice to give it his all does, ultimately, count at the end of the day.
