67 Minutes for Mandela Day

On Sunday, St Andrew’s College boys started off their 67 minutes for Mandela Day by revamping the Ikayalosizo play area. The College boys also spend most Friday afternoons reading to the children at Ikayalosizo.

This year at St Andrew’s College, our aim for Mandela Day was to highlight the plight of food security and climate change with the tagline, “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are”.

St Andrew’s College boys have reached out to the soup kitchens in Makhanda over the past two years, to help by sharing what they have. On Mandela Day, a number of boys, in the middle of their exams, gave their time to serve at one of the local soup kitchens. College caterers provided 67 litres of soup and 67 loaves of bread.

“Take Action, Inspire Change and make every day a Mandela Day”- Nelson Mandela

The Garde 8 & 9 boys from St Andrew’s have been an incredible help. They have repainted and fixed some of our yard jungle gyms and swings. They then took time out to braai and spend some time with our Ikhaya Losizo children. We are so appreciating of local schools who care about their community’s children. Thank you, St Andrews, for your kindness and support and for showing you truly care!
