Inter-House Tennis play-offs

This week saw the end of the Interhouse tennis play-offs.With quite a couple of surprises during the last fixtures, the final scores caused the ladder to move around quite a bit. The finals will be played on Monday 13 June at 16:10 for the Seniors and Tuesday 14 June at 15:15 for the Juniors.

In the Senior competition, you will notice that two Houses ended up with the exact same total of games in the end – this was for a place in the final against Graham. As the final has to be played, there cannot be a tie for a position. The second step was to add the total number of games conceded – the House with the least number of games conceded, would proceed to the final. Yet again, both Armstrong and Mullins conceded 74 games in the play-off fixtures. The last resort,
was to refer to the total number of matches won. This was the determining factor… Mullins won a total of 10 matches out of a possible 15, which placed them in overall 2nd position. Armstrong, unfortunately, won 8 of a possible 15 matches and therefore they will be facing Merriman in playing for the 3rd and 4th position.

For the Juniors, the results were a little more clear-cut. Mullins and Espin will be battling it out in the final, Merriman and Armstrong for the 3rd and 4th position and Graham and Upper for the 5th and 6th position.

A big thank you to all the players who have been committed for the duration of 5 weeks; arriving on time and always keen to play. Congratulations to the students who arrived to represent their House, but might not be the strongest tennis players – we commend your enthusiasm. Lastly, a big thank you to Mrs Mackenzie and Mr Barnard who assisted in the admin and also sacrificing their afternoons to be at the courts.
