St Andrew’s College Debating Society attended the Inaugural Jeppe High School Annual Debating Tournament from 18 to 19 March.
Seven boys took part. The junior team comprised of Mida Nkontso, Jiyana Ncapai, Galeboe Jujuju, Olona Kamba. Our senior team was made up of Guy Glossoti, Siviwe Quma and Elijah Sejjaaka.
They debated over five rounds, two of which were prepared motion debates and three impromptu debates. All debates were highly competitive, as the boys went up against Jeppe High School, DSG, St John’s College, Greenside High, St David’s Marist, Pretoria Boys High School, Parktown Boys’ High School and Uplands College. The St Andrew’s senior side won three out of five rounds, and the junior side won one. The senior speakers placed in the top half of 42 speakers. We congratulate Siviwe Quma and Mida Nkontso for being the top-ranked St Andrew’s speakers.
This was an opportune occasion for St Andrew’s College debaters, not only to participate on a large-scale event but also to meet debaters from different parts of the country. We are incredibly grateful to the tournament organisers at Jeppe High School, the adjudicators, fellow debating schools and those who made this weekend a reality. Congratulations to all our debaters.
