The St Andrew’s College Water Polo camp was held from the 7 January – 10 January 2022 at the Hudson Swimming Pool. I was very pleased to be able to start the year on a positive note. The Water Polo Camp as always was well attended, and we had an excellent turnout of over 50 boys across the grades.
It is always exciting to see the new grade 8 boys, especially the boys that are trying out water polo for the first time and I hope they will continue after the camp. I was also excited to see we had several new boys arriving at College in the senior grades who are strong water polo players.
The camp was a great success, where we managed to get back to basics after a long holiday. We also completed the much-needed swim tests, although I am sure most boys would have preferred to skip these, and Mr Christie took the boys through some excellent wrestling skills as well as gym work. Thank you, Mr Christie, for always offering your time and expertise to the water polo program.
We managed to mix the age groups up on Saturday evening and had some excellent games. We even had some Grade 8 cricketers join us for some game time, maybe they will be converted!!!
I believe the camp was good preparation for the year and I am looking forward to a busy term in the pool.
A big thank you must go Nancy-Anne Richards, Bridget Mazwai and Ronel Dixon for cutting their holiday short to look after the boys, the maintenance and ground staff for making sure the pool and grounds were in great shape and to the coaches who came down and assisted, Mr Matt Standley from Prep and Mr Jacques Hoefnagels from College as well as Mr Tapiwa Madzima who has joined Armstrong as a student Tutor.
