Great excitement as Grade 10 pupils return to St Andrew’s College campus after the epic 21-day John Jones Fish River Journey. Welcome home we are so proud of you.
With Journey only being completed a few hours ago, the reflecting has already begun. I have been involved with Journey for the past decade but this year saw me taking on a new role, being confined to the seat of a car has allowed me to move between all the groups every few days and watch how they have grown over the 3 weeks.
The 2021 cohort can be extremely proud of what they have been able to achieve through this shared experience. There have been some incredible moments of team work and unity amongst all the groups as they faced the varying challenges that Journey presents. And through facing these challenges together, friendships have been formed and memories created which I know will last for many years to come.
I would like to thank our pupils for conducting themselves in the manner in which they did so that next year’s grade 10s may have the same opportunity. I would also like to thank all the staff who have given up their time so that this experience could be made possible for our pupils. A special note of thanks must go out to all the group leaders who have spent the last 20 nights away from family and loved ones whilst caring and guiding our boys and girls through the Karoo and down to the Fish River Mouth.
To Staff and Pupils put down your bags and throw away the Noodles, Journey is Over!!
