Throughout the exam period, as other school sport has gradually wound down, a Rowing Club squad has been hard at work preparing for the South African Schools Boat Race taking place in Port Alfred on Kowie River over the 10th and 11th of December.
It has been a two year hiatus from the last time this event was contested and March 2020 was the last time that all the top schools from around the country were able to compete against each other so it is fair to say the anticipation has been building for some time!
The College rowers arrive at the event off the back of some strong results against local Eastern Cape opposition as well as a dominant showing in the fixture against Bishops over the half term break. It has been a tough period of training in the interim but the crew is coming together well with the confidence and excitement for the event building.
St Andrew’s is proud to once again host the Boat Race event on behalf of the South African Schools Rowing Union and we also extend our gratitude to Standard Bank for their generous sponsorship of the event which helps to make it a great showpiece for the sport of rowing as well as supporting new and developing schools to take part in the event. Through Standard Bank’s support full live-streaming of the event is being provided by SuperSport Schools so that more of the action can be witnessed by spectators wherever they are.
