Jake Tatham (Grade 12) has achieved the Gold Standard of the President’s Award, which is affiliated with the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.
Jake has completed 72 hours of community service. He volunteered at Game Rangers International, a wildlife organization dedicated to rehabilitating and reintroducing animals back into the wild where he helped with the data capturing and moving the database to an online system where the animals can be tracked and recorded remotely. Jake also helped at Lusaka Animal Welfare Centre and relocated stray dogs and cats and assisted at the local veterinary clinic to tend to the injured animals.
Jake’s participation in the Rowing Club qualified as his sport component. He has been a valued member of the College Rowing Club over the past 5 years.
Jake’s skill component of the award was learning to service and rebuild the engines on farm equipment and big refrigeration rigs at the Hybrid Poultry farm in Lusaka, Zambia.
The Grade 10 John Jones Fish River Journey qualified as the adventurous component for the Gold standard award.
Jake attended the Round Square International Conference in India and this opportunity for growth, new challenges and experiences through different cultures and traditions, qualified as his residential project for the Gold award.
