The St Andrew’s College 1st XI played the OA XI in the annual 50 over match on Saturday. The OA XI Captain, Andrew Rushmere, stuck College into bat looking for early wickets and determined to use the early morning moisture on offer. The College batsmen showed tenacity compiling a superb 259/5 in their 50 overs. Captain Samuel Francis batted superbly for his fluent 123 not out and was very well supported by Matthew Pope with his solid 80. College felt confident over lunch but was soon grappling for ideas, as James Mullins showed his class with his boundary filled 114 off just 91 balls. The vital dismissals of James Mullins and Murray Leith created some hope for the schoolboys, but the OA’s held on to win by 2 wickets on another superb day of cricket. The end of year cricket dinner following the match was a fitting manner to close out the year and a special thanks to all those involved. Well done to Samuel Francis for winning the OA bat and a very special thank you to Marguerite Poland. Her presence at the bat handover ensured the ceremony would be one to be remembered.
