St Andrew’s 1st XI won the toss vs the touring Michaelhouse 1st XI and elected to bat first in the 40 over day-night match. Brad Storrer and Zach Micklewright compiled a mature 96 run second wicket partnership steering College to a competitive 241/8 in their 40 overs. Brad Storrer’s 121 came off just 101 balls and he was well supported by Zach Micklewright’s solid 43. Alex Vermulam (2/44), Josh Kirsten (2/39) and Ayanda Cele (2/33) were the pick of the Michaelhouse bowlers.
College came out resting on their 241 total, but soon realised they were up against quality batting from Adrien Fisher and Callum Porril who were flying along in their 92 run opening partnership, making full use of College’s width given by the bowlers and the Knowling’s fast outfield. College was made to dig deep and attack the stumps after the 20 overs’ drinks break.
Zach Micklewright (2/26), Oliver Snart (2/36) and Brad Storrer (2/34) responded and combined well with the ball in hand. Pressure mounted on the Michaelhouse batsman, and with Callum Porril’s dismissal for a superb 89 College gained much-needed belief going on to secure a 33-run victory.
Thanks very much to Michaelhouse and their team for a wonderful event and a superb evening of cricket. We wish them all the best for this week’s Michaelmas Cricket Week.
