St Andrew’s College enjoyed their first 100 ball cricket match last night under the Knowling lights. Inspired by OA, Chris Benjamin’s recent success in the inaugural The Hundred tournament, representing the Birmingham Phoenix, the College cricketers were full of energy running out on a warm spring evening. The Marx XI won the toss and elected to bat first posting a competitive 138/8 in their 100 balls. Captain Dylan Marx led from the front with a blistering 51 off 36 balls. Left arm swing bowler, Zach Micklewright found his straps early on in his vibrant spell of 2/24 in 20 balls.
The Francis XI set their innings up early on and then Sam Francis 42* (36) and Brad Storrer 22 (17) lit up the night sky with their match winning partnership. Captain Sam Francis steered his team home, and Marshall Parham finished it off with 3 balls to spare launching a 6 over long on. William Emslie was the pick of the bowlers for the Marx XI with 3/20.
Well done to all the players for contributing towards a deliberate and meaningful exercise.
