There was much excitement in The Cawse Library on Wednesday 19 May among the Grade 8 boys as they eagerly awaited the arrival of Mr Alan Thompson, who would be hosting the first 2021 Library Headmaster’s Tea. This special occasion is one of the highlights of the year for the eight boys specially chosen from their grade.
The boys had earned their invitation to the tea, held in the Old Andrean North American Room, because of their diligence in class, their demonstration of leadership qualities and their love of reading as demonstrated by the number of books that they had read, and book reviews written on the library website.
Mrs Jamieson was on the lookout in her Information Literacy classes for boys who showed respect, compassion and helpfulness to their peers and their teachers. They needed to demonstrate a real interest and love of reading and a desire to spread this interest among the boys at College. Mrs Jamieson was also able to track their reading habits by using the SORA reading App. All eight boys who made the cut for the tea collected five green stickers on Mrs Jamieson’s TeacherApp.
The boys thoroughly enjoyed the delicious tea and happily chatted about the books that they had read. Mr Thompson thanked the boys for their enthusiasm in promoting the library culture of reading for enjoyment. He encouraged them to continue reading and stressed how important reading is for their future education. He was inspired to check out one of the books reviewed by one of the boys.
With full tummies, the boys reluctantly left the Library, but with promises to continue promoting the vision of the Cawse Library. There is one more Library Tea planned for this year and the Grade 8 boys are already working hard to be invited to this event.
