The College team of four – consisting of Matthew Grunewald, Callum Readings, Timothy Nasasira and Kevin Campbell travelled to Newcastle to compete in the KwaZulu-Natal Open held under the auspices of the South African Air Rifle Association. This was our first competition in eighteen months, and an event anticipated keenly.
After a very long trip skirting Lesotho, we arrived without incident. After preliminary details had been completed on Friday, the College athletes were in competition on Saturday morning. All four produced personal best scores in the U20 age group. At prize-giving, Matthew was awarded the Silver medal, and Kevin, the Bronze medal for that event.
My enduring thanks to our drivers, Messrs. Alton Jacobs and Luyanda Valela, for their excellent care of us throughout the trip ensuring that we arrived safely at both ends of our journey; and to Mr Bryan for the meticulous route planning to ensure secure outcomes.
Well done, College marksmen: you did yourselves and College proud!
