St Andrew’s College Hockey Club had a busy week of fixtures last week, playing mid-week matches against Graeme College and then travelling to East London to play Hudson Park High School while hosting Rhodes University on the Webster Astro.
Results were as follows:
College won all three fixtures against Graeme.
Both U16A and B sides beat Hudson comfortably.
• College 2nds winning their games against both Graeme 1sts and the Rhodes men’s 2nds.
• U16Ds beating Rhodes woman’s 2nd side.
• Hilton Lindhorst’s control of the defence and Sibusiso Mxube’s 4 goals for the U16A side.
The College 1st team learnt a valuable lesson as to how critical it is to start a match at 100%. We conceded two quick ‘soft goals’ due to a lack of concentration and poor marking in the first five minutes. This meant that we were always chasing the game. We came to life in the second quarter and played good hockey from then on. We controlled the game and had a number of D entries and short corners which we did not capitalise on. We conceded zero short corners and were awarded six and a P-flick which we were unable to convert. Our efforts were too late and Hudson ran out winners 3-1.
