Congratulations to Jacob Erasmus who has achieved the Gold Standard of the President’s Award, which is affiliated with the Duke of Edinburgh’s international award.
He has completed 102 hours of community service, which is a commendable achievement as the minimum service hours required for the Gold standard is 72 hours. His service hours included helping with the Santa Shoe Box project, library renovations, alien plant removal and his involvement with various fundraisers. Jacob is also the co-founder of the Interact Club at College.
Jacob’s participation in the rowing club qualified as his sport component. He has rowed in the 2 VIII, the 2 IV and in the 2nd pairs for College.
Jacob’s skill component of the award is playing the Alto saxophone and he has played an active role as a saxophonist in the College and DSG Wind Orchestra since 2017. Jacob has been a committed musician and he has completed his external Trinity Grade 4 Saxophone exam.
The Grade 10 John Jones Fish River Journey qualified as the adventurous component for the Gold standard.
Jacob participated in the student exchange programme to Ridley College in Canada and this opportunity for growth, new challenges and experiences in a different environment, qualified as his residential project for the Gold award.
