The Nuclear Winter Man by Terry Deary, Max McLeod is in a post-apocalyptic park built in 3D space. This creates a vivid picture of reading in a nuclear wasteland and it is a stark and intimidating place to read a book. Certainly, worthy of the title Winner of the Extreme Reading competition. He walks away with a prize of R3 000.

The joint Runners-up were Connor Moorcroft and Alex Calder for their entry Boys in the boat by Daniel James Brown and Jacob Erasmus with his entry Born to Run by Christopher McDougall. The boys in the boat is the inspirational story about the Nine Americans and their epic quest for a gold medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Jacob said of his book Born to Run that this was an inspiring read which focused on the running ability of Tarahurama Indians from Mexico and the
photograph was taken at the end of Jacob’s half-marathon.
