St Andrew’s College won the toss on Saturday versus Graeme College and elected to bat first on Lower field. Graeme bowled wicket to wicket and made scoring tough for St Andrew’s. Guy Rushmere and Nicholas Barlow steadily went about their business compiling a much needed 100 run partnership. Guy Rushmere top scored with a mature 63 and Nicholas Barlow again played an effective innings of 57 in middle overs. EP left arm swing bowler Siphesihle Madlongolwana bowled superbly for Graeme in his spell of 3/40.
Graeme College correctly attacked the power play led by inform EP batsman Garwin Dampies with some beautiful stroke play against the new ball. St Andrew’s had to dig deep through their spinners Chris Poole and Malcolm Macgregor who restricted the Graeme batsman and steadily raised the required run rate. Garwin Dampies played magnificently for his 110 off 129 balls and had the game in his grasp before he was bowled by Ryan Ford looking for a boundary over extra cover. Miles Danckwerts picked up the 10th wicket in the final over securing a 12 run win for St Andrew’s and Dale Brody was impressive on the day with his figures of 3/35 in 9 overs.
Well done to both teams for producing another exciting day of cricket on Lower field.
