Towards the end of last term, two of our swimmers swam in the Level 3 Regional Gala in Oudtshoorn achieving very good results. Cameron Rafferty, competing in the 16-18 age group, made 4 finals: winning gold in the 50m free, coming 6th in the 100m free and 8th in both the 50m and 100m backstroke.
He was also part of the 50m and 100m free relay teams that won gold. Scott Ritchie made 3 finals in the 14-year age group, winning bronze in the 50m backstroke, coming 4th in the 50m free and 5th in the 100m freestyle. He too was a member of the 4 x 50m and 100m relay teams that won gold. These were excellent performances by our boys.
Oliva Lange and Martin Wolmarans attended the South African Senior National Aquatic Championships in Durban in the final week of last term.
This was Oliva’s first Senior Nationals competition as a Youth swimmer. He swam in the 15-year-old category and set two new School Records for the 50m breaststroke and the 200m Individual Medley.
Martin swam in the Youth Elite Category and successfully made it into one ‘A’ final for the 50m freestyle. In the end, he came 7th overall, improving on his previous Eastern Province record and our School Record for this event. He also set a new School Record for the 100m backstroke, dropping more than a second from the previous 2014 time.
Martin was also a member of the 4x100m freestyle men’s relay team which won a bronze medal.
