Franschhoek Chamber Music Workshop

Four of the top string players from the David Wynne Music School were fortunate enough to have been selected to attend this week long event. This annual Chamber Music Workshop offers musically gifted young people a week of intensive training in scenic Franschhoek. Participants receive professional and highly personalised instruction to encourage and develop their talent, to improve their prowess as a collaborative musician, and to achieve real progress in a self-enriching and fulfilling way. The best form of report back is in the words of the pupils themselves: Ben Terry (Cello): “From the food to the music, everything was exceptional, the dorms were clean, and the house parents were always nice. Making music is such an amazing feeling, and especially being able to make it with other people alike. I was able to chat and enjoy myself talking about our favourite sonatas and pieces. Quite a few of the people I talked to were around my age and some were home-schooled, they said it helped them to really enjoy and get into the music. I played in a quartet, a quintet and a sextet, we were all able to bond well, and at the concerts I feel we played exceptionally well. The funny conversations and other mishaps took any kind of tense mood off the situation and we were able to focus on our playing, and really get in to it. All in all, the constant playing and thinking of music helped me improve my sight reading and has made me consider how much more I need to practise. Being able to go to Franschoek was a memorable experience and truly helped me and I wish to go next year as well.”
