The 8th annual Rhodes University Mathematics Experience was held last Friday afternoon at the Barratt Lecture Theatre complex on the Rhodes campus. Despite some stiff competition from Alexander Road High in Port Elizabeth, our teams from St Andrew’s College and DSG put in a sterling effort, securing six of the top nine places.
In the Grade 7 and 8 categories, St Andrew’s took the top three positions in flying formation with Joshua Pretorius being placed 1st overall, closely followed by Thomas Barrow and Matthew Gouws. In the Grade 9/10 category Joss Hempel was placed 3rd overall, while in the Grade 11 and 12 category Brady Henaghan took top honours. In addition to Josh and Brady each winning a R500 cash prize, as the top senior student Brady was also awarded a full first year academic scholarship to Rhodes University.
