Peter Jarvis was awarded Honours for Hockey in 2017, but has taken his performance and achievements in Hockey to new levels this season. Despite his outstanding performances for the College 1st XI with his entertaining skills and high work rate, Peter was selected as Captain of the Eastern Province U18A team which competed at the Inter provincial tournament in June. At this tournament, he was the leading goal scorer and named striker of the tournament. In addition, he was selected to represent South African Schoolboys against Australia. Peter was identified as one of the most influential players in that series.
His National coach Devon van der Merwe noted: “The saying ‘Good people, make good hockey players’ is apt for Peter. He is polite and treats every person with respect. He has a fantastic training ethic and gives of his best at all times. He has an eye for goals and was the top goal scorer in the series. He sets a good example and displays servant leadership. His work rate on the pitch is outstanding, he makes smart decisions on the ball and he is a sound team man. He is an asset to any team or setting”.
Peter also represented the South African U18 Hockey Fives squad at the African Youth Games in Algeria at which the team won Gold.
In addition, Peter has led this youthful 2018 St Andrew’s College 1st XI superbly. Despite his busy schedule, he has remained a role model to all hockey players with his dedication and commitment to the Hockey Club.
He is thoroughly deserving of Hockey Honours.
