Individual Shooting Champsionships

An Olympic Final was held on Wednesday morning at St Andrew’s College, with the Archers competing for the Jock Hobson Tankard, and the Air-Rifle shooters competing for the W.G.N. Lightfoot Tankard.

Starting with a shootout for the 8th position in the Archery, the final became progressively tenser as competitors vied for the 6 points which would move them on to the next round. In the end, it was Mitch de Kock and Daniel Bradfield who shot against each other for 1st place. This was taken by Mitch in a very exciting exchange of arrows.

The Air Rifle Olympic final followed. One often wishes for a fine, hot day for a competition, and what splendid weather we had! In the process of elimination, Michael Mager and Jonathan Campbell were the last two shooting for the win, which Jonathan achieved.

Nine sets of Parents and Sons competed together for the Parents and Sons match. The Air Rifle event was won by Richard and Mr Dorrington.

Mrs Sarah Mager, Mother of the Captain of Shooting awarded the prizes: The Jock Hobson Tankard to Mitch de Kock; the WGN Lightfoot Tankard to Jonathan Campbell; and the Most Improved Shooter award to Richard Dorrington. The trophies were specially engraved to mark the 140th year since the first College shooting scores were recorded. Michael presented his Mother with a basket of flowers in appreciation.

My sincere thanks to Tom Cleasby (Field Officer: Archery) and Mr Steven Wagner for conducting the Olympic Finals; and the members of the club for their help in setting up the Lightfoot Range before the competition.
