The concert season got off to a sparkling start on Wednesday evening with the Valentine’s Day Senior Open Concert. All music lovers were in attendance and there was standing room only outside a packed auditorium on a very hot evening. The DSG Chapel Choir began by telling the greatest love story ever told with their heartfelt rendition of Amazing Grace. Our newest Music Scholar, Emily Morgan, then blew everybody away with her beautifully expressive Fantasia in D minor by Mozart. Other highlights included: Tim Simpson’s bright and breezy performance of Melody No.6 by Alex Ridout on his Piccolo and Sascha van der Merwe’s excellent performance of the demanding Etude Allegro by Nakada. There were three love songs performed (Nicole Ruwodo, Elliot Apps and Alex Duckworth) before the SAC/DSG Jazz Band turned up the heat with sizzling renditions of Killer Joe and Memphis Underground. The winner of the lucky draw hamper was a delighted Alicia Muzanga. Many thanks to all who supported so generously.
