The most perfect way to start off your Easter Holiday would most definitely be to fill it with excellent live music, good theatre and amazing food.
Once again the KKNK provided all of these things and more. We had a full program of three or four shows a day, interrupted only by sleep, Belgium chocolate, sampling the joys of the Rivierbuurt and superb art exhibitions during our four day stay in Oudtshoorn.
Highlights on the theatrical front would certainly include ‘Amper, Vrystaat’ and ‘Die dag is bros’, while ‘Schalk Bezuidenhout Lewendig’ provided for excellent comedic relief after some more serious productions. We were delighted to still be able to go to the open air ‘Zoid Afrika Afskopkonsert’ (after it was initially flooded out) where we saw the cream of South African singers strut their stuff with Karen Zoid.
We finished off the trip with an amazing performance by Franҫois van Coke and ‘Hensop!’ before having to shake the Karoo dust off our tekkies and travel back home.
Thank you to an enthusiastic, exuberant and extremely well behaved bunch of Grade 11 and 12 pupils who were brilliant in their appreciation of the arts, joyful in every experience of Klein Karoo culture and mindful of their position of being ambassadors for their schools. It was a pleasure touring with you.
