CITATION FOR THE AWARD OF CEMA HONOURS FOR FIRST AID

Matthew Shaw

Matthew Shaw has served the First Aid Club loyally and with exceptional dedication since Grade 8.

He has taken his responsibility seriously and has always been willing to help both with the administration of the club (keeping record of hours and managing sign-ups), as well as with first aid duties beside the field. He has given in excess of 240 hours in duties alone, and countless other hours of behind-the-scenes work on spreadsheets, training, packing boxes, communication and planning. Despite his commitments to other activities, Matthew has always stepped into the breach without drawing attention to himself and simply covering gaps when someone has not arrived or when no-one else has been willing to sign up.

He has been an excellent role model for the younger first aiders and always set an impeccable example in the way he treated others, as well as in his reliability, commitment and attitude.

Matthew has been instrumental to the smooth running of the club over the past three years, in particular, providing the continuity as staff leadership has changed. He has modestly and quietly ensured the effective functioning of the small team of volunteers.

Matthew is able to make good decisions under pressure and keep his head in a crisis. This makes him an excellent first aider. He has not, however, become complacent and re-did his Level 3 course this year.

His time commitment, his skill, his leadership and his willingness to work behind the scenes make his contribution extraordinary.

Matthew is a most deserving recipient for the award of CEMA Honours for First Aid.
