CITATION FOR HONOURS AWARD FOR SERVICE
Uli Ratsibe has immersed himself in the cultural programme since his arrival at College in Grade 8. It was immediately apparent that he was a young man determined to make a difference and to leave a lasting imprint, and he has certainly done this.
He was awarded Merit for Service in Grade 9 and Colours in Grade 10, a remarkable achievement and acknowledgement of his exceptional contribution in service to the arts at College.
Broadly involved in so many different activities, Uli has achieved no less than five Colours Awards (for Pipe Band, First Aid, Community Engagement and, most recently, Chapel Choir and Music), as well as Merit Awards for his involvement in Dramatics and Debating.
Uli’s significant contribution across so many fields has undoubtedly raised the profile of culture at College. He has been a visible participant in almost every cultural event: providing first aid on the side of the sports fields, performing in the pipe band in parades, playing the piano, on stage singing and acting, debating and organizing events.
In his own right as a musician and performer, he has passed Grade 6 piano with distinction as well as Grade 8 Music Theory with distinction. He was awarded the Bobbins Poetry Prize as a junior and achieved Silver in English Olympiad. He was placed 3rd for tenor drum at South Coast Gathering this year.
As much as Uli’s talents have thrown him into the limelight, his behind-the-scenes contribution has been equally impressive. He has assisted with first aid sign-ups, worked as a stagehand, taught drums to junior boys, organized community engagement events and G’town Funk, and completed more than 200 hours as a first aider.
Uli has shown leadership in the First Aid Club, the CEMA Committee, in Merriman House promoting cultural participation, and through his generous nature he has championed a culture which promotes empathy for others.
Uli has been exemplary in all that he has done, and the breadth and depth of his involvement will be difficult to equal.
Uli is, without question, a most deserving recipient of the award of the prestigious CEMA Service Honours Award.
