Last night our Matric Music pupils performed in their Matric Music Recital at the DR Wynne Music School. The IEB Matric Music practical examinations took place on the second day of term, and despite the pressure of such an early kick-start to the exam season, Jon-Henri Clayton and Uli Ratsibe acquitted themselves very well, walking away with high A-symbols!
Jon-Henri Clayton performed on the electric guitar accompanied by backing tracks. His first piece was a soulful “The Devil” by Anna Calvi, followed by a very groovy “Hide Away” by John Mayall, ending with a mind-expanding “Maggot Brain” by Funkadelic.
Uli Ratsibe then took centre stage at the grand piano to show us the way to heaven. A lyrically expressive “Sicilienne” by Maria-Theresia von Paradis was followed by a truly spiritual “Petites Litanies de Jesus” by Gabriel Grovlez and ended with a slick and jazzy “Struttin’ at the Waldorf” by Philip Lane.
The concert was a resounding success and they fully deserved their excellent exam results. Well done to Jon-Henri and Uli!
